Worship At Faith Church
Faith Church worships together each Sunday morning at 9:00 and 10:30 am. Holy
Communion is celebrated weekly, alternating between the two services. During the
summer months one service is held each Sunday, at 10:00 am. Nursery care is
offered throughout the year at the 10:30 service (or the 10:00 service in the
summer).
During the season of Lent, midweek worship is offered on Wednesdays. At 12:15 pm
we gather for a 30-minute midday devotional service.
Faith Church follows the practice of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada,
welcoming and inviting all who are baptized to share in the celebration of the
Lord's Supper. Our worship life is enhanced by the music provided by our
resident Parish Musician, Shawn Lemp. Mr. Lemp is a skilled player of the pipe
organ, piano and electronic keyboards. He also plays the trumpet and guitar as a
part of worship from time to time.
Our Parish Choir supports the congregational singing at the 10:30 am liturgy
each week, and presents anthems during worship. Cantatas sometimes have been presented to the congregation by the Choir at Easter and Christmas.
Faith Church boasts a very fine Pipe Organ built by the Principal Organ Company
of Woodstock, Ontario. It consists of 2 manuals with 18 ranks playable over 31
stops. This organ was dedicated in February 2001. Faith is also blessed with a
Young Chang Grand Piano, which was dedicated in April 2003.
Fellowship at Faith Church
Faith Church members enjoy fellowship in a variety of ways. Throughout the year,
Coffee Hours are held on the third Sunday of each month. Over the summer, Coffee
Hours are held each week after worship.
Women of the parish enjoy the fellowship of Evangelical Lutheran Women, which
meets on the second Wednesday of each month. ELW members share a potluck supper
to begin the Fall program year, a Christmas turkey dinner in December, a Shrove
Tuesday pancake supper, and a Daughter Banquet to mark Mother's Day.
Men in the parish gather on the third Saturday of each month for a Men's
Breakfast of bacon and eggs with all the trimmings. Each Fall the men turn
dozens of head of cabbage into barrels of sauerkraut, and then host a Sauerkraut
Supper in January.
A group of Euchre players gathers for a game of cards and a evening luncheon
known as Last Friday Fellowship.
Faith's retirees, known as the Faith 39'ers, enjoy a monthly potluck lunch and
fellowship time at noon on the third Wednesday of each month. 39'ers enjoy an
Oktoberfest dinner in October, a Christmas dinner in December, and a bus trip,
theatre performance and dinner in June.
Christian Education at Faith Church
Faith Church is blessed with a very fine Sunday School, with classes offered
throughout the year, including the summer months. Nursery care is provided for
children under 3 years of age. Children from age 3 through Kindergarten meet on
the third floor of the building right at 10:30 am. Children from grades 1
through 8 meet at the 10:30 am worship service until "Children's Time". After
this they proceed to Luther Hall for their classes.
Each summer a Vacation Bible School is offered, often in concert with another
local congregation.
Newly baptized children are automatically enrolled in our Nana Faith program.
A volunteer from the congregation (currently Heather Whitty) is responsible for coordinating the
congregation's cradle roll, which provides regular mailings and home visits to
parents of little ones from birth through age three. Booklets, cards, audio
tapes and more are sent out, providing support to parents in raising their
children in the baptismal covenant.
Confirmation Ministry is offered from September through May for children in grades 7 and 8, with Luther's Small Catechism
providing the basis for the two years of instruction which leads to Affirmation
of Baptism/the Rite of Confirmation. Adult Bible Studies and Forums are held at
different times during the year.
Community Outreach at Faith Church
Faith Church is an active presence in the community, offering a variety of
ministries and programs.
A large number of youth meet as 20th Faith Scouting, with Cubs meeting on Monday
evenings, Beavers meeting on Tuesday evenings, Scouts meeting on Thursday
evenings, and Venturers and Rovers meeting at agreed times throughout the year.
Our scouts take an active role in the life of the congregation, serving on the
congregation's Duty Roster for worship leadership, and taking responsibility for
a service each year in February celebrating Scout Sunday. Guiding is represented
by a Sparks Group which meets each Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm. Faith Church
offers emergency relief to the community through our Food Pantry which is
stocked through member contributions.
Throughout the year, members of the community are able to purchase clothing at
Faith Church's Clothing Depot, which is staffed on the first Thursday of each
month. With clothes for men, women and children sold for $1 per bag (all you can
fit in), the Clothing Depot has been a true blessing since its inception several
years ago. All funds raised through the Depot are forwarded to Canadian Lutheran
World Relief for overseas relief work. Each Christmas the congregation is a
generous supporter of Operation Christmas Child, providing Christmas gifts and
personal care items for children in needy countries throughout the world.
Local families also benefit from the generosity of Faith Church members who
support the community's Christmas Baskets program, which has provided Christmas
gifts and dinners to tens of thousands of families over the years.
Other community groups also make use of the facilities of Faith Church from time
to time throughout the year.
